How To Make A Shrinky Dink Jacket Zipper Pull

Write your name on your zipper pull so everyone knows who is boss!

Here’s a neat craft idea for a personalized Shrinky Dink Zipper Pull – a perfect way to enhance a new fall jacket! Arrive at school in style and have everyone wanting to know where you got that cool new Zipper Pull!

What you will need for this project:

First, get a 3-D Shrinky Dink kit of your choice – whether you like Fairy Princesses, Dinosaurs, Robots or Christmas – or just choose some Shrinky Dink tracing paper and make your custom Shrinky Dink creations!

Trace your choice of Shrinky Dink on the paper and decorate with colored pencils. Make one Shrinky Dink or several, so you can have a variety of Zipper Pulls to use on several jackets and coats. You can even make one to attach to your lunch bag or backpack zipper!

Once the Shrinky Dinks are colored, used the scissors to cut around the Shrinky Dinks (according to instructions) and leave a small area above the drawing. Punch a hole above the Shrinky Dink with the hole punch, this will allow you to hang it from the key ring with a piece of string.

Have an adult “bake” the Shrinky Dink in the oven, per directions, to shrink and set the image. When done baking, place the Shrinky Dink(s) under a heavy book for a few minutes to ensure it is flat and straight when it cools.

Take the key ring and tie it to the hole at the top of the Shrinky Dink and then weave it through the end of the zipper on your jacket for a custom, colorful zipper pull!

Another option, to personalize your belongs while at school, would be to trace round circles on the Shrinky Dink tracing paper and write in your name or initials to create “nametag” zipper pulls. Attach these to the zippers on your jackets, coats, lunch bags and backpacks so everyone knows they are yours!
